Guidance
Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
The Farrell
Guidance Department is here to provide all students with academic, personal
and career counseling in a safe and welcoming environment.
We are committed to
assisting students in need and serve to help
students select their future careers.
We also serve as the registration/withdrawal office
for students in addition to scheduling their classes.
We
believe that each and every student can gain as much as possible from
his/her educational experience and strive to promote a positive environment,
building a sense of confidence and self-esteem.
It is important for every child and his/her guardian
to be focused on being academically successful and reaching his/her personal
goals.
Regardless of career interest, we urge students to take
advantage of the opportunities provided in the school setting and assist
them in planning accordingly for their future.
We
look forward to working with your children and appreciate all of your time
and assistance.
Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

The Farrell Area School District
supports the American School Counselor Association's National Model. The ASCA
model is also recommended by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The
links and information below can also be found on the
ASCA web site.
"ASCA's National Model: A Foundation for School Counseling
Programs" reflects a comprehensive approach to program foundation, delivery,
management and accountability. The model provides the mechanism with which
school counselors and school counseling teams will design, coordinate,
implement, manage and evaluate their programs for students' success. It
provides a framework for the program components, the school counselor's role
in implementation and the underlying philosophies of leadership, advocacy
and systemic change. When implementing a National Model-based program,
school counselors switch their emphasis from service-centered for some of
the students to program-centered for every student. It not only answers the
question, "What do school counselors do?" but requires school counselors to
respond to the question, "How are students different as a result of what we
do?"
